We have been meeting over the last twenty years to catch up with the latest findings in the fast moving field of the treatment of psychiatric disorder. Our meetings have always had the feeling of a gathering of friends who freely discuss the latest findings in an easy collegiate setting both inside and outside the lectures.
This year we have the benefit of being able to listen and discuss with major international experts the main issue of how to identify and treat Resistant Depression (TRD). Toni Ramos from Spain discusses the impact of comorbidity ADHD on treatment resistance. Siegfried Kasper will update us on the rapid acting antidepressants which have been investigated, mainly in treatment resistance, Chiara Fabbri will discuss potential genetic tests and the blocked genetic pathways in TRD, and Markus Dold on new findings on lithium. Borwin Bandelow will discuss the controversial issue of the enduring effect of psychotherapy in anxiety disorder. Timothy Dinan will reveal his gut feelings on nutritional psychiatry in mood disorders, Allan Young will share his concerns of the influence of inflammation on these disorders, Alessandro Serretti will cover the advances with using new antipsychotics in treating depression and Istvan Bitter on the treatment of depressive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia.
There are very welcome updates on the treatment on bipolar disorders with Allan Young on bipolar depression and Dr Edward Vieta on treating the cognitive dysfunction in mood disorders and Hidalgo Mazzei on the advances of technology into digital psychiatry. David Baldwin will share our concerns on the use of valproate in women in bipolar disorder.
Alexander Kautsky whose family have been treating the Viennese for many years will give an update on personalised treatment of TRD in practice. Naomi Fineberg will share her concerns on the potential inclusion of hypochondriasis in OCD. Will this improve treatment?
Overall, the quality and international reputation of the speakers remains very high and their willingness to share their knowledge and considerable experience with us in this wonderful Viennese setting is not to be missed.
